Blood Clots

LEO Pharma has been developing products for people with blood clot disorders for more than 50 years. We listen to how people experience living with these life-critical conditions – to develop treatments to make their lives as comfortable as possible.

About

Potentially dangerous blood clots can develop in the deep veins of our legs for many reasons, including genetics and as a result of surgery. There are two types of blood clots:

  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which occurs in the deep veins
  • Pulmonary embolism (PE), which occurs when a blood clot travels to the lungs

Treatment

Although blood clots can be difficult to detect, they are highly treatable. Common treatment is using heparins, a natural "anticoagulant" or clot-buster. Heparin-based products can be given to prevent blood clots in people at high risk, or to treat already-formed blood clots, such as DVT or PE. Successful treatment can help prevent their potentially disabling and life-threatening consequences.

As part of our commitment to this critical area, we partner with the Canadian Cancer Survivor Network, as part of World Thrombosis Day. We are also a proud sponsor of Thrombosis Canada.
